15 years of service and counting

Zennon McCarty has been volunteering in Wodonga for 15 years and was the winner of the 2018 Individual Volunteer of the Year Award.

The awards are not seeking to identify a ‘best volunteer’.

These awards are presented to volunteers for their outstanding contribution to the community in the Wodonga region.

Zennon was successful in winning the Volunteer of the Year for the Wodonga Council as an individual in the Sport and Recreation category.

"I have been volunteering for 15 years, since I have been in the community at Wodonga," he said.

"I think the most enjoyment I get out of it is seeing people progress through the ranks through their sports and all other communities.

"The nomination was a bit of a surprise from my point of view.

"I felt that there are more people who have done a lot longer stints in community involvement and groups.

"I was most surprised to win the award when it was announced."

Zennon has held more than 18 roles as a volunteer in the community for the past 15 years.

His involvement has stretched from Auskick, football, cricket, to school and church.

  • Zennon dedicates countless hours each week, involving the youth of the area and is a strong advocate for promoting and keeping children in sport.

Zennon is now encouraging people to nominate someone worthy in this year's awards.

If you know someone who makes an outstanding contribution to the Wodonga Community, why not nominate them for this year's awards at https://wod.city/VolAward2019 before April 11, 2019.
