Albury Wodonga launches Jobs Drive

The Mayors of AlburyCity and Wodonga Council have thrown their support behind local job providers in their annual Jobs Drive for Albury Wodonga.

The campaign, run by five local employment businesses and supported by the chambers of commerce, will again focus attention on high levels of unemployed young people by using the Federal Government’s Youth Jobs PaTH program throughout September.

The campaign aims to find 100 young people employment as well as 20 internships.

Youth Jobs PaTH helps prepare young people aged 15 to 24 with the right skills and assists employers to find and recruit the right employee for their business.

PaTH - which stands for prepare, trial, hire – gets young people work-ready and enables employers to trial prospective workers before hiring them.

Employers may receive additional support for ongoing training and development of new employees as well as being eligible for wage subsidy payments.

Jobseeker participants also receive a $200 fortnightly incentive payment in addition to their income support while participating in an internship.

AlburyCity Mayor Cr Kevin Mack said the program could change the lives of participants.

“Getting young people into work is critical, not only for their future, but also for the wider community as we look to grow our economy and training young workers to meet the needs of our business sector,” he said.

Wodonga Mayor Cr Anna Speedie said the combined approach of the Jobs Drive would help to make a real difference.

“We know that youth employment is a key concern for our communities and it is important we support initiatives that aim to employ, support and retain our young people in our community,” she said.

Working with the providers is Apprenticeship Support Australia.
