Community Cooking

Did you know in our region 14 per cent of the population run out of food during any one week?

This is where Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare steps in to rescue food, share food and empower people so no-one in our region goes hungry.

FoodShare sponsor our Community Cooking events at Felltimber Community Centre where participants are provided with fresh and healthy ingredients to cook up a storm while socialising and learning new skills in the kitchen.

Food is donated or rescued from supermarkets and stored at the FoodShare warehouse, based at Wodonga TAFE, until it is distributed to welfare agencies, schools and neighbourhood centres who are registered with the food charity.

A staggering 80,000kg of food is rescued each week, which is redistributed across the region.

"If we didn't rescue the food then it would probably go to landfill," Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare manager Peter Matthews said.

"Poverty is real in our community and we are here to help."

Community Cooking runs every Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm during the school term.

Those interested in joining the next Community Cooking event should book by phoning (02) 6043 4550.
