Denahy set to star at The Cube

Yackandandah comedian and bluegrass musician Pete Denahy is set to delight crowds when he plays The Cube Wodonga.

Denahy, a Golden Guitar winner who has toured with Slim Dusty, believes if you are up for a laugh, then his lunchtime show is for you.

The singer-songwriter takes a relaxed attitude to his sets. He and his double bass player Aaron McLean will see where the show takes them rather than appear with a fixed set.

"I hope that everyone who's coming is coming for a laugh," he said.

"I think a lot of people know me for my comedy songs and there will be plenty of those. I'll also put some of my bluegrass songs in there as well.

"I'll wait and see what's happening. I usually have a set list but if there's something else to play that feels right, then I'm happy to be guided. Some people practice six months before but usually for these shows with Aaron, we will decide right before we go on."

It might be because Denahy knows his craft so well or it could just be the country boy who is really relaxed on stage.

Denahy started with a band called The Plough Boys playing the fiddle. He got a break when he received a call to go and play with Slim Dusty.

He did that for four years and has headed up Travellin' Still - the songs of Slim Dusty with Pete Denahy and The Travelling Country Band.

"I'm very grateful to make a living out of music," Denahy said.

"I love performing and getting out playing to crowds."
