Three YAS award winners for May

Talented Wodonga residents Zac Spalding, Charlotte Streat and Riley Sutherland have each been awarded a YAS award at the May council meeting.

The Young Achiever Support Scheme is aimed at assisting young people in their pursuits to participate at a state or national level for activities, events or competitions.

Zac Spalding is raising funds to attend the Junior Academy of Country Music Australia at Tamworth in July.

He was one of about 20 youths from the whole country to be selected.

The 14-year-old is an amazing upcoming artist who has already opened large stages for artists like Danny Phegan and Sara Storer and has performed at many local music festivals.

His sister, Eliza, is well-known for her singing and attended the same academy two years ago.

Another winner is Charlotte Streat, 13, who in April took part in the Athletics Australia National Championships in the under 14 discus, javelin and shot put.

Charlotte holds a state gold medal for discus and also enjoys netball, playing for the Wodonga Saints under 15 side.

She is also a member of the Bendigo Academy of Sport Netball Program.

The council's final award recipient was Riley Sutherland.

Riley played in the national indoor hockey team representing Victoria and from there was picked in the Under 21 women’s Australian indoor hockey team.

The side will play internationally in the Czech Republic from November 11 to 18.
