Get active in April

Calling all Victorians – it’s time to get on board with Premier’s Active April, an exciting and fun way to get active, stay healthy, and enjoy time within your local council.

Not to mention to win some awesome prizes.

Premier’s Active April encourages all Victorians to commit to doing 30 minutes of physical activity a day during April.

It’s free, it’s fun and it’s part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to getting more people active and healthy.

Register today via the Active April website www.activeapril.vic.gov.au. Registrations close on April 30.

Once you register for Active April, you can create teams and invite friends to join.

You can even plan activities in advance for your next weekend away.

Plus, there’s also the interactive mobile app for iOS and Android to log your daily activity with the click of a button and compare progress, a digital card to access all the general offers, plus a trophy cabinet for when you meet activity goals.

This year there’s also the all-new get active workouts where you can follow our instructional videos to help you keep active every day.

These can be done at home or in the park with no equipment required.

Here are some tips to get you moving.

1. Think “move more”

Scheduling exercise is great, but it’s also helpful to think about how you can move more in your everyday life.

Take the stairs or walk from a car park that’s further away because physical activity can be accumulated in small amounts.

2. Be realistic

When setting exercise goals, take an honest view of what will work for you and you’re more likely to succeed.

3. Exercise with a group

There are many benefits to exercising in a group or with family and friends and aside from the physical benefits, you can socialise and feel more motivated.

4. Focus on health and strength

It’s easy to get discouraged if results don’t happen immediately, for example if you’re after weight loss.

Focus on the other positives too such as how many times you walked this week.
