Grab a book and keep reading

Calling all bookworms or those just looking to escape in the world of books this summer.

On Saturday, Wodonga Library will launch its annual Summer Reading Club and is inviting you to jump on board.

Between 9.30am and 11.30am come on down to the library for a range of activities, including a jumping castle.

You will be able to sign up to get your free reading challenge kit and earn rewards over the summer.

The reading challenge involves reading as many books as you can between December 1 and January 25.

Step 1. Record every book you read on your Reading Log.

Step 2. Once you reach ten books, return to the library.

Step 3. Collect your reward and start a new log page.

For every 10 books you read you will earn a small prize, plus you can pick a location on the ‘Game On’ map to go into the main prize draw.

There will also be a series of events throughout December and January to take part in including the make your own curious creatures crafts on January 10 for ages 6 to 10, which will involve creating screen printed bags, masks and pompom animals.

Then on January 21 there will be a Curious Creatures Drama Workshops for those aged 5 to 8 between 10.30am and 11.30am and for those aged 9 to 13 there will be a workshop from 1pm to 2pm.

Act, sing and dance your way to create your own curious story through this fun interactive drama workshop.

On January 15, join Wildlife Exposure to encounter unique animals around Australia.

Touch and hold hand reared gliding possums or pat a tame dingo.

Interact with parrots, lizards, frogs and turtles.

Confront non-venomous pythons and marvel at salt and fresh water crocodiles - all in the safety and comfort of Wodonga Library.

Those aged 5 to 8 are invited from 10.30am to 11.30am while those aged 9 to 12 can come along between 12.30pm to 1.30pm and those over 12 are invited between 2pm and 3pm.

For those into game design, a wokshop on January 17 will allow you to put your gaming experience and creative imagination into action as you develop your own computer game.

Learn how to create animations, control the main character, collisions, collectables and determine how the game is won.

The workshop is for all abilities. Ages 10 to 16.

The Summer Reading Club will culminate with a Curious Creatures Wrap Party on January 24 from 4pm to 6pm.

There will be musical performance by Captain Pete, games and activities for the whole family.

Barbecue tea provided. SRC prize draws at 5.30pm.
