In His Image - a creation story

"Border performer Kyle Walmsley brings exploration and autobiography to life in his new show In His Image at The Cube Wodonga.

Raised in an extremely religious family in Queensland, Walmsley uses the creation story - otherwise known as The Book of Genesis - as an allegory for understanding the troubling times we live in.

Fascinated by stories and by the process of creation, Walmsley weaves biblical references into comedy and clowning to produce this thought-provoking show.

"It's not just a straight up play or stand-up comedy. It's probably somewhere in between," Walmsley said.

"It's personal as it's my coming out from religion. I grew up in a very strict religious household and this is my way of processing all of that in a funny way."

Walmsley, who lived in a variety of capital cities before settling on the Border three years ago, said he wrote this show because it was something he would want to see.

"There's a lot of things being produced for families and for children and I wanted to produce something for the 18 to 40 year-olds who may or may not have children but want some entertainment for themselves," the 30-year-old said.

"I know sometimes I don't feel sophisticated enough to go to the theatre or the opera so I wanted to create something for people who the Real Housewives of Melbourne or Sydney could walk away from thinking that theatre was for them."
