Residents visiting the Waste Transfer Station can now have the vouchers on their rates notice scanned on their smart device, making it more convenient and environmentally friendly.

Waste Management Co-ordinator Jason Perna, who oversees the Waste Transfer Station, said with 50 per cent of the community now opting to have their rates sent to them electronically, council could now provide a service down at the Waste Transfer Station where residents could scan their mobile device to use a waste voucher.

"You can take a photo or bring in your iPad, iPhone or any smart device, we can scan it without you having to print it out," he said.

The Waste Transfer Station is now also taking electronic payments.

"No cash, no card - no problem," Mr Perna said.

"We can use your smart device or iWatch to scan on our pay-wave Eftpos terminal."
