What's up with these weeds?

Wodonga Council is working on eradicating an invasive weed called Parrots Feather that has been found at Les Stone Park.

Parrots Feather is an aquatic weed that forms a thick mat over the surface of the water.

This particular weed spreads when part of it is broken off and takes root in another area of still water, making mechanical removal difficult.

Wodonga Council will treat the weed with an aquatic approved herbicide.

Hand spraying will be carried out to avoid too much damage to the already established native vegetation, accessing the pond by wading or using a small boat.

Ecological Enhancement Services have been engaged to do the work, they are also helping the council identify some of the other vegetation around the pond as part of an ongoing effort to reduce exotic species and encourage native biodiversity.
