YAS winners riding a high
Wodonga Council's April YAS award winners are both riding a high after claiming their certificate at Monday night's council meeting.
YAS aims to financially assist young people to participate at a state or national level for activities, events or competitions.
Harry Back, 13, has been competing in mountain biking for the past 12 months.
He has been fortunate to travel to some beautiful parts of Victoria while pursuing his sport with passion.
Training takes place twice a week at Hunchback Hill with Indi Boar, who is the National Junior Downhill coach.
Harry competed in his first national championships from April 4 to 7 in the under 15 downhill race in Bright where he placed 7th.
"I enjoyed racing our local downhill tracks in Bright with the best riders in Australia," he said.
"With some financial assistance it will allow me to fund additional training so I can give it my all against the best in our country."
Earlier this year he placed 1st in the Mt Beauty Victorian Gravity Enduro Series Round 2.
Another YAS award was presented to Dylan Muller, 15, who started go-kart racing at the age of 11 with the Albury Wodonga Kart Club.
In 2018, Dylan stepped up to higher levels – competing in the Australian Kart Championship held at the Albury Wodonga Kart Club.
He finished all his races that weekend and placed 24th.
On April 6 and 7, Dylan took part in Round 2 of the Victorian Golden Power Series held at the Albury Wodonga Kart Club where he placed 2nd.
The Golden Power Series is a statewide series held over five rounds at different tracks around Victoria.
At the weekend he competed in the Victorian Kart Championship where he placed 11th.
